5 Ways you can support Local Businesses and Local Community Economy during this Crisis

In these difficult times, COVID-19 is not only affecting public health but economies too, especially in regions like ours where tourism is the main industry that sustains hundreds of thousands of families. We know social distancing and staying at home is the best way to stay safe, but we also know that many people will be struggling financially to survive this health pandemic that has also become a global economic crisis.

In an effort to support local businesses that employ many people, and that have been forced to close or reduce operations due to the health protocols and measures implemented by the government, we would like to share with you 5 ways to help our community businesses and their employees. We are convinced that this situation, no matter how hard it is right now, will pass, and if we work together following the protocols and supporting our local economy, we will successfully overcome the crisis as the united community that we are.

Below a list of 5 ways you can support our community during this crisis:

1 - BUY LOCAL - Local businesses employ local people, and by buying local you are contributing to the local economy. Every time you buy at any of the local stores or locally produced items you are helping that business to remain open and provide a source of jobs during such difficult times.

4 - PUNTA DE MITA HUMANITARIAN RELIEF FUND APPEAL - In order to bring immediate relief and support to the community, PEACE Punta de Mita and Punta Mita Resort (DINE), have joined forces to proactively devise both short and long term plans to address this crisis with the program that has as an immediate response plan the distribution of weekly filled grocery bags to the families that PEACE staff has identified for this first block of aid. Without a doubt, the number of families needing assistance will likely grow, and PEACE is in the process of creating a full list by name and family size, assuring that food supplies are to be directed to only townspeople. To learn more about this project and the different ways to support it, please go to this article where we share more information about it.

5 - STAY HOME, STAY SAFE & STAY CALM - We know these are stressful times and it's so easy to panic, but catastrophism or paranoia are our enemies. Try to stay calm, explore different ways to spend your time without staring at your screen all day long, and if you want to be informed we suggest checking reliable news and official sources to avoid worrying and sharing information that might not be real. It's time to be creative, to relax, to discover new hobbies or dust off that book in the corner, seize this opportunity to dedicate time to yourself and enjoy the company of your loved ones. So far the best we can do to take care of us, our friends and family, and the entire community is to Stay Home, Stay Safe and Stay Calm.
