No need to say how difficult these times for everyone! We all have experienced the challenges that this pandemic has brought to our lives, and while we have been blessed to be in an area with very few cases, it is also true that the local community is having a very hard time. With the stop of all touristic activity, the income of thousands of families has been severely affected. But, in the middle of the COVID crisis, a group of women in our neighboring communities of Emiliano Zapata, Higuera Blanca and Corral del Risco used their sewing skills to elaborate reusable face masks in order to support these affected families.
Different members of the community joined this effort; Quinta del Sol, Punto Mita, Posada Paraiso, NAEF, Mita Surf House, Juliana y Pala, Yvonne Boland, Irma Anaya, Lisa Bruno and Fundación Punta de Mita donated fabric for this community project; Chrissy Armstrong and PEACE Punta de Mita lent the sewing machines; and once the production started, Fundación Punta de Mita bought 1,000 pieces to support this group of 11 women in charge of the fabrication, to then be distributed within the 3 involved communities.
We are very proud to see how these initiatives have emerged, and most importantly have been embraced and supported by the entire community. Fundación Punta de Mita's slogan was never more meaningful than now: Together we achieve much more!
